November 28th, 2006
We are currently running this blog service on mediatemple’s grid server service. Although we have had some ups and downs with it, generally we have been happy.
Today, however, the mediatemple grid has been down 9% of the time per our monitoring software.

Ditto, I’m in the same boat as you on this one. Sigh.
Two questions:
1. Where did you get that support incident link? I don’t see any obvious route in to all those incidents. Very handy to have!
2. What are you using for monitoring? (Big Brother, a third party service, etc.)?

We’re actually using Little Sister - she tattle-tales any time the site is down. =P
I think Q put together a script, but I might be wrong.

Dpon’t worry you aren’t the only one, grid is going down multiple times a day for everyone unfortunantly.

I think things are becoming more stable over the last 24 hrs…
We use SiteUptime as one of our current monitoring systems. (Affilate link… give us some love.) They have a great free service, and we have recently upgraded to their inexpensive subscription service. We have enjoyed it so far.
I also use a version of ipcheck. It’s fairly buggy with a complex database/server design. I’m not a big fan of it.
The incident link was provided by our support ticket. Actually, that link was about all the information they provided.
My fear is that mediatemple grid will degenerate to the level of dreamhost. Yuck.
Sorry it took a server outage for you guys to find me.
Adding both of your sites to my feedreader now.

[…] Recently, a ton of people have had problems with MediaTemple’s new grid server system. As a long fan of MediaTemple, I was disappointed. […]

[…] Dan used the service for 6 days. We have been using the service for over 2 months now. Initially, we had a few rough days with the grid service as well. MediaTemple admitted their initial problems and rolled out 3 months of free service for the trouble. Since that time, their service has been imperfect but solid. […]

Has this been resolved. I am deciding on the next technology to bring my hosting business to the next level. I was pretty sold on the grid server from either Mosso or Media Temple. Since Mosso doesn’t have the capability to run cron jobs, I was leaning toward MT - Until I read this blog.
Anyone used the MediaTemple Dedicated Virtual server?

Dedicated has been wonderful for us. That’s completely seperate than the grid, and we’ve been using it forever. If you can afford it, I would recommend it above all else.
The grid service has been improving and improving. You can see my update to this post here:
