Find codecs for Video files
May 10th, 2007
Sometimes it is frustrating to not be able to play a video file and be unsure what is causing the problem. If you are like I was last night, then you would be grateful to easily find the codec to play the files. The MovieCodec Codec Tool allows you to find the codec that made the unplayable file so you can download it. Just drag and drop, and thats it!
Oh yeah, like most software shown on this blog, Codec Finder is free!

VIsta Certified List
May 10th, 2007
If you have a Vista or about to get a Vista PC, then it is good to know if your software is 100% compatible with Vista. Otherwise, you could be in for a lot of headache. This is the list for VIsta Certified Programs as of May 4, 2007.
Applications that have earned the “Vista Certified” or “Works with Vista” logo.
Ubuntu
May 9th, 2007
Linux is certainly one of the cheapest(free) and reliable operating systems around. But for many, there is a feeling of fear of changing operating systems in a predominantly Windows world. That is why there is Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a user targeted operating system with many features of Windows, without the need for millions of patches. With Feisty Fawn having been recently released, there are many advantages of using Ubuntu.
One of the best reasons is there are hardly any security risks compared to Windows.
The second reason is that it is free to download and use.
Also, you can easily download free applications that can do everything you can do on a Windows machine.
Check it out at the official website:
If you want to try it without giving up Windows, go here:

What is Betamarker?
Betamarker is a way to keep track of software you like and a way to find new software.

By doing this, the best show up on top. It’s easy to use and fun to explore.
Portable Applications
May 6th, 2007
This post is meant for the person who has to work on more than one computer for a long period of time.
If you, like myself, work on many computers, then you must realize how frustrating it is to have to tweak each computer’s settings to get it the way you like it. I am also assuming you use a flash drive to move information, not the easy way. Now, there are several ways to have your preferences in your flash drive and have it automatically load your settings when the flash drive is inserted.
PortableApps- Free
PortableApps installs itself into your flash drive and allows you to have programs installed into your flash drive with your preferences.
In the Suite version, many free apps are preinstalled including Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC Media Player, and more.
You can choose the suite version, which has preinstalled software, or the lite version, which has only the PortableApps client and allows you to choose what you want to install.
Any USB 2.0 compatible device will work, including iPods.

MojoPac- $50
MojoPac allows you to easily install the programs you use the most, including games!
With MojoPac, you can install Photoshop, World of Warcraft, AIM, and iTunes.
You can be sure that almost no evidence is left behind when using MojoPac.
Like PortableApps, MojoPac will work with any USB 2.0 device.

U3- Depends on price of Flash Drive
U3 smart flash drives are made to be able to hold applications and programs.
These flash drives load the launchpad upon insertion and automatically start the programs you choose.
There are many choices of what you can install, but if you want to create your own U3 compatible programs, use Package Factory. (This might not always work)

Cryptainer LE
This post isn’t going to be long. I have to leave soon so it will be short, sweet, and simple.
Most people know that password protection is a very good way to secure a file.
But what they don’t know is that most passwords can be cracked and the files can be accessed.
But what most people don’t know, is that you can easily encrypt your files to strongly secure your files.
Encryption is much more secure and harder to crack than passwords.
What encryption does is garble up the data, and when you wish to access the file, it un-garbles the data and lets you read it in its original form.
Cryptainer LE is a program that I have found to allow you to encrypt you files without hassle.
You don’t need to know anything, just drag and drop!
Its free, so you don’t have to pay anything.
Alien GUIse Theme manager
May 1st, 2007

Do you envy Alienware?
Do you drool everytime you see one pass by?
Well now, we want to make you drool everytime you get on your computer.
(Im joking, please do not drool, you will be suspected of viewing “inappropriate” content)
Alien GUIse is a program based on the stardock programs of DesktopX, IconPackager, Theme Manager, and WindowBlinds.
It allows you to change your desktop look to one that Alienware themself made.
It isn’t the best desktop manager, but if you like no hassle at all, this should be good enough.
To get it, just give them an email, and they send you the download link.
(Doesn’t have to be a real one, just has to look valid)
There you go, and have fun with your Alienware desktop!
