3 Useful iTunes Tips

Check total play time
The bottom bar of iTunes displays abbreviated play time. To switch to detailed time, which displays the exact play time, just click on the bottom bar once.
Convert video to MP3
When you have a video in your iTunes library, simply right-click (PC) or control-click (Mac) it and choose the “Convert Selection to MP3″ option.
Delete duplicate songs
A duplicate song is the same song added twice into your iTunes playlist by accident. To find these, go to:
- Edit > Show Duplicate Songs
Now simply highlight and delete them.

The “Hidden” iPod Easter Egg Revealed

This does not work in the latest generation of iPods.
To sum it up in one sentence, an easter egg is a hidden item or “gem” that is not meant to be found easily. To find yours, follow these instructions:
- Go into your Main Menu.
- Now go to the “About” screen.
- Once there, hold down the “Action” (Center) button for several seconds.
- Viola! You will be treated to a game of Apple Classic Brick-Out.
A cool feature about Brick-Out also is that it can be played while the iPod is sitting idle or playing MP3s.
I’m not sure this works with all iPods, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work

5 Things To Know Before Buying An iPod

Because impulse buying is wrong, especially iPod impulse buying
1) Be relaxed & comfortable
When purchasing an iPod, you should be happy with what you see. Make sure it meets all your expectations and fits your needs. Ask a lot of questions, or do a lot of research online, because you will be stuck with this model for a while if you decide to buy it.
2) Big changes happen every 6-12 months
There will always be something fresher and better on the market 6-12 months after any new product release. If a new iPod was released many months ago and you are considering buying it, be patient and wait for a new model to be released within a few months.
3) Don’t buy the “first generation” model
When a new iPod is released, it is safer to wait for the second or third generation of that model to be released. This is because the first generation usually suffers from “revision A”, “early adopter” or “first generation” bugs.
4) Don’t listen to rumors
There will always be rumors and speculation about upcoming iPods and what’s next for Apple. Most information like this can be found on various websites, yet this information is 99% of the time completely incorrect, as Apple never discusses future products and plans openly.
5) Expect frequent change
As time goes by, the iPod will only get better. Apple always tries to keep its products ahead of the competition. Based on the latest statistics, you can expect external changes, such as casing, about a year after release and internal changes, such as storage capacity, about 3-6 months after release.

Burn MP3 CDs with iTunes

Yes. It’s simple, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t even know you can do it.
To burn an MP3 CD through iTunes, simply go to:
- Preferences > Advanced > Burning
- Check the “MP3 CD” option.
When you return to the iTunes window, click the “Burn Disc” button on the top right-hand corner.

Computer won’t sync your iPod?

Some things that can stop a PC from syncing an iPod include a faulty USB port, iPod hardware problems and software issues. Make sure you’re using a powered USB port to connect your iPod, using more than one would be good for a test.
If this turns out to be fine and you’re still stuck, the next best thing you can do is uninstall iTunes, restart the computer and reinstall it.

Convert your Mac iPod to work with Windows

Before going ahead with this, you should know that ALL files and settings on your iPod will be deleted, so make sure you’ve saved them somewhere.
- Connect your iPod to your computer.
- Run the iPod software updater. If the lower left corner of the updater window shows a lock icon with the text “Click the lock to make changes”, click the lock icon.
- At the authenticate dialog box, enter your password in the “Password or phrase” field.
- Click OK.
- Click the Restore button at the updater window.
- Unplug and replug your iPod to complete the restore process when prompted to.
- Click the lock icon in the iPod software updater window to prevent anyone else from restoring your iPod.
- Close the iPod software updater window.
- Your iPod should now appear on your desktop. Reset it if it hasn’t.
- Go to the iTunes setup assistant page.
- Enter the name of your iPod in the field provided.
- Click Done.
Who wouldn’t want to convert to windows after all?

Make your iPod battery last longer

I’ve owned 2 iPods and both have been rendered useless because of their battery life. Thank God for warranty. Here are some things I have learnt in order to significantly reduce iPod battery usage and preserve the battery life:
Keep your iPod at room temperature
Which would be 68ºF (20ºC). Excess heat or cold shortens the lifespan indefinitely, so make sure you keep it out of such situations (e.g. a hot car).
Use your iPod on a regular basis
The iPod battery works like muscles. The more you use it, the more the electrons move inside.
Remember to charge your iPod completely
A full 4 hours of charging is ideal. Now your iPod is at its maximum battery power and can handle hours of playback as a result.
Update your iPod software
Apple can add battery performance to its software updates, which benefits your battery in terms of running time. Software updates can be found at apple.com/support/ipod
Use the “Hold” switch
Located on the top of your iPod, the “Hold” switch helps prevent the iPod accidentally waking up when you’re not using it.
Turn off the backlight
Your iPods backlight uses up more battery power than anything else. Keep it on only when you need it.
Turn off the equalizer
The equalizer drains your iPods battery life. Keep it off.
Avoid repeatedly changing songs
Changing tracks with the “Next” button will cause your hard drive to work overtime to keep up.
Use compressed songs
Your iPod works best with songs of the average file size (under 7 MB). If you use AIFF or WAV format, it would be wise to switch to AAC or MP3.
If you still have a problem, you would need to take it an iPod repair shop for a replacement battery. Do NOT try to replace it yourself, unless of course your warranty has expired and you think you can do it.
