A great deal of tweaks that I suggest involve Registry edits and problematic events can occur if you make a mistake using one of the Registry editors. Here’s  what to do to make your Registry edits safer and save yourself some headaches.

If you want to edit a value using RegEdit, the safest thing to do is save the key before you make changes. Let’s say that you’re going to make a change in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad.  Before you make the change, click the right-click the Notepad key and choose File -> Export. Give the file a name describing what it is and click Save.

Now that you have this key saved, you can just double-click the REG file to restore the original Registry settings if things don’t go according to plan.
