Wii Sports: Bowling Tips
January 2nd, 2007
Who would have thought that bowling would be such a fun game to play on a console. Everybody that has played it on my Wii has become instantly hooked. Here are a couple of tips:
To Change the bowling ball color: When the screen fades to black after selecting bowling, press and hold the control pad in a set direction until the screen fades into the game. The ball colors are as follows:
Red Ball: Press and hold left on control pad
Gold Ball: Press and hold right on control pad
Green Ball: Press and hold down on control pad
Blue Ball: Press and hold up on the control pad
To bowl the ball straight down the lane: release the ball high so it drops on the lane before rolling, making sure to not rotate your Wiimote. (I learned this from my kids who bowl like this in a real bowling alley, I’m glad bowling balls don’t bounce!)

hehe.. i totally agree! so fun seeing more and more people w/wii’s too! i still got to add ya.
my pal had a minor wii-lated accident, guess he was playing bowling on the couch and decided to not wear his strap and got a nice throw but hit the couch w/his hand and lost the wiimote. the wiimote’s batteries and cover flew off and the wiimote went right through the little window above his tv. however, the wiimote was fine but the window.. well, not so. i’ve been telling him to always strap on! hehe..

My 5-year-old routinely shoots around 150. She thinks it so very funny when she has the blue ball and I have the pink. I have just hit PRO with bowling but I can’t do much better than that.
I am just starting to get where I can control the spin. I haven’t figured out the utility of rotating the wii prior to bowling. I am assuming it is for people that get major spin.
January 5th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
yea, the tilting prior (ie windup) gives you the major spin, my throw has progressed into a major spinner, i have to go to the very far left most times to hit the head pin.. hehe..
however i’m still unstoppable in tennis.. ! yea yea! beer + wii sports = drunkin splendor…
i still say a good drinking type game would be awesome, just make the game use a 1,2,3.. type scoring (ie shots/drinks) and give it a M rating and voila! instant multi-million dollar game! hehe..
peace

Wii Bowling is awesome! Thats a gread score you got there Ohnhai, I cant get passed 212, my brother in law is beating me by 1 point.. and he thinks he owns the world LOL I need a score like yours to shut him up for a while..
January 28th, 2007 at 9:14 am
Wii is the best! I bowled 2 perfect games already. I am da bomb! Who else bowled a 300? My brothers and sister are having a tournament on all the Wii sports game so far I only lost 2 times and won 9
February 13th, 2007 at 2:12 am
Yeah, this game absolutely rocks. I got 275 the other day 2 spares and 11 strikes! You gotta get a handle on how to spin the thing and then if you bowl consistantly in the same place, you got it cracked!
Wont be long before I get a perfect game. I hope! I won’t sleep until I do! lol
February 23rd, 2007 at 11:54 pm
I just got my first 300 a few hours ago. I bought my Wii just 3 days ago…guess I picked up on this game quick. I found that if you stand where the red line is on the second dot on the far left of the lane, zoom in and aim one half-click to the left of the dead-center of the 1 and 2 pin, release the ball high and with very little to no spin to the right, and get it right every time, you will always get a strike. my last 5 games since I figured this out have all been 260+. Have fun and I hope this helps!
February 24th, 2007 at 7:42 am
If you’ve never accidentally released the ball during the back swing, give it a shot. Hilarious reaction from the crowd.
April 28th, 2007 at 10:55 am
i learned if u add a exter spin to the right, left(depends on your hand) u have to hit the frount pin and the next pin behind it at the same time so u get a strike…hope this helps

After trying every way i could to get the ball down the lane straight it continued to curve to the left. As my frustration grew i begam twisting my wrist this way and that to figure out what i could be doing wrong and adjusting my stance, player postition, etc. Finally, close to giving up, I decided to just try it with my left hand (i am right handed). The first game I tried it with my left hand i threw a 187. My previous best with my right was 120. It was unbelieavble. Not sure what I couldn’t get down by playing with my right hand, but i guess my mechanics were already permanently set. Interesting, give it a try if everything else fails.

[…] Our Nintendo Wii with Wii Sports is not as snazzy as this one with 5 sports games included in the Wii Sports disc that comes with it all. Our Wii Sports came with baseball, bowling, gold, tennis and boxing. The boxing requires the Wii Nunchuk Controller to work — our console came with one, so my husband bought an extra Nunchuk. The snazzy console above also includes a remote, a Nunchuck and a Wii Sharp Shooter and Racing Wheel. I didn’t even know they had this White Sports Pack for Nintendo Wii Remote - Baseball Bat, Golf Club, Tennis Racket that actually look like those objects. We just have our Wii controller remote that we swing around like crazy. My kids especially love to swing their nunchuk around at the end of tennis matches when they display who won and lost. But let’s talk about Wii cheats. Here are Wii bowling tips. And check out this crazy way to get a strike on Wii bowling game — you can get to all those pins under the training section, a Wii bowling tip my husband’s coworker told him about: […]

My little brother, just hit 12 strikes, a perfect score, pretty amazing huh?
January 11th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I love Wii bowling. We play it with all the family: me my mom and my dad. We are having a lot of fun. My mom did perfect game twice. And my dad and I did 258. I like to do strikes when the pins fly around.
I have a question: Do you know how it count scores at the very end? Because sometimes I do 210 and it gives me 1 point, sometimes 189 and it gives me 25 points. Can anybody explain me this, please. Thank you.

My highest is 212 and I usually play for like 30 to 90 minutes a day with my girlfriend at her house because they bought their dad a Wii for his 46th birthday a few weeks ago and he loves the bowling and his highest is 219 and I’m really getting a hang onto the curve and I found a little bit of a helper for strikes for myself when I start each frame I move my character 4 space (…or left clicks on the control pad) to the left and then with the amount of curve I give off each roll I give myself about a 60 to 75% chance of a strike (give or take) and lately my girlfriend and I have incorporated some rules into the way we play…strip Wii bowling!! hehe… that or we give each other some friendly sportsman ship pending on who gets the strike ; ) hehe
March 29th, 2008 at 10:31 am
*NOTE EDIT* I meant to put 4 spaces* (…or right* clicks on the control pad) to the right* sorry for the mistakes lol

I am the best at bowling, just 1 day after having the wii i got a perfect 300!!! YOU ALL OTHER PLAYERS WHO ARE EXCITED ABOUT GETTING IT IN 3 DAYS ARE INFERIOR TO MY POWER!!! To date i have done 64 perfect 300 games, and i didnt even cheat!!! (im not sure there are any real “cheats” out there…)

I love the Wii bowling. I bowl in a winter league and perhaps it’s a coincidence but ever since I’ve been bowling on the Wii my real average has gone up. My form is better and my games are higher.
Thanks for the tip on changing ball color. It was tired of always having the pink ball
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:30 pm
i have 700 odd on bowling it’s so addictive although i prefer singles as opposed to doubles.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I’ve gotten my 6th 300 game. My natural curve got me into the gutter many times until I figured out how to use it. Wii love to bowl!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I bowled a 300, and a 299 consecutively by moving the controler three single clicks to the left, and using the toss. 13 straight strikes for a perfect score! I played again and rolled 12 straight, then one spare for 299. I’m trying to get above 611 on the training portion of bowling; any suggestions?
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:44 am
I love the Nintendo Wii. I think it is a fantstic game. I have bowled a few 300s but don’t have enough time to get really good at it. I’ll have to try what Mike suggested. Anyway, it is good to see more and more people using the Wii. I thought the the first commercials for the Wii were awsome as well. Nintendo had been falling out of the game market for some time before the Wii.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Got a call this morning from my 4 year old — he just bowled his first perfect game! Don’t think I’ll ever be as good as him…
August 20th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I bowled ten 300 games. Nine on my Wii. One one my friends Wii. My skill level is at 2040. My last 300 game, I droped 4 points on my skill level! So I telling you guys this to help you out. DO NOT GET ANY MORE 300 GAMES IF YOU BOWLED ONE!!!!!!!!!! I think I will never go up in points on my skill level anymore.
September 8th, 2008 at 5:04 am
I’ve bowled 15! PERFECT! games. I do It the lazy way my overweight friend taught me.Over the top! I bowl like I’m casting a fishing pole. the ball gets thrown a lot faster but Ive learned how to granny bowl over hand too. Does anyone else bowl this way Ive been told Im cheating ’cause it’s almost perfect every time and they have trouble bowling this way.(I golf overhand too!)
September 21st, 2008 at 11:09 am
I’m really bad at bowling but really good at tennis. When i play bowling, i play around with it and i really wanna know how to bowl STRIKES the whole time.

Great work on assembling these Wii Bowling Tips! I haven’t played in a while and when I read this article I got the itch to go play again. I’m suprised that some of the other commenters have actually scored a 300. I guess I’m not as good as I thought I was. :oP
October 14th, 2008 at 7:04 am
my friends won’t bowl me anymore……too many perfect games….am averaging 258…had back surgery so i can’t do the standing. i sit on the edge of the recliner turn the wii remote sideways (keep it in that position throughout the swing) ..hold b…drop straight down…pause..then straight up fast releasing the ball with power and a lot of spin…..once you find the proper spot.. use the same motion and speed consistently….it is fun when people do challenge you….have fun

Well, if you happen to be trained in the ways of the Jedi, you could use a “force push” to bring it back right.

My 8 year old sister scored 288 yesterday. She is much better then me, and im 20.

If you unlock Spin Control (under bowling in Wii Training), you’ll notice no matter what you do the ball spins heavily. I, however, realized that if you throw the ball in the air instead of straight across, you have virtually no spin. Have fun.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
The first day I set up my Wii I got the Pro Status in bowling. It’s easy to control the spin, but my high score is a 276. I still can’t get that perfect 300 lol. (Also a Pro in golf and boxing.)
January 5th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
By the way, I spin my ball by putting backspin on it. Just swing the remote and when your close to the ground flick your wrist up very fast while rotating the remote to the left or right depending on which way you want to curve. Hope that helps some of you!

Got a question for the forum.
I play in a Wii League at the local bar, yes, I play in a video game league. (Never thought I’d say that one out loud…) When I bowl normally, I’ve found that I get back spasms from my muscles, so bowling with the Wii seemed to be the perfect fit. I managed to find my “sweet spot” in Wii bowling, which has been aptly named “granny bowling” As I will slowly release the ball in mid swing. This tactic has a rate of about 50/50 of getting all strikes in a game producing a perfect score. Now, the Wii bowling League at the bar has declared that my style of playing is considered “cheating” and that I must play as everyone else does, which causes my back to go into spasms, similar to actual bowling.
It was my understanding through Nintendo, that Wii bowling was created so ALL can play bowling and have some activity in their life other than sitting on the couch.
Does anyone else here think that this rule is appropriate? Or what are your thoughts on the matter?
Thanks in advance.
January 30th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Y’know, Wii bowling is actually harder than it looks. Getting strikes takes a bit of practice and know how. The most strikes in a row that I’ve made is 3, I believe. Highest score was a 209, and I think I got that by luck.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I want to start a neighborhood Wii bowling and tennis league. Can someone give me ideas for its organization? Any websites devoted to such leagues?
Thanks.

Hi, I got the Wii game for almost 3 months now. The first thing we play after starting the WiiSports is bowling. My 6 year old son loves it, so is my 3 year old daughter. I had the record in my home so far until yesterday with 11 Strikes and 1 spare for a score of 276. I thought this is unbreakable. Guess what! my record is broken today, not once but twice. It is not my wife. my 6 year old son. He got 279 first with 11 strikes and a spare. I thought that’s it for today. wrong again. He got a perfect 300. I mean all 12 Strikes. I am amazed at how a 6 year old could get a perfect score. He spins the ball on every strike. I couldn’t. I think he has got a knack for bowling. I am thinking of taking him to real bowling soon. He is currently enjoying his success discussing about his perfect score with me every 5 minutes and worse asking me, if I want to learn from him :). ofcourse I am proud of him
February 14th, 2009 at 6:02 am
Great tips! Love changing ball color. I think I need a support group to break me of the game!
February 19th, 2009 at 7:31 am
I’m 53, and my sister and her husband have had a Wii since Christmas (2008). I love the bowling! I find that I actually throw a very similar delivery and ball to what I throw in real life — about four clicks to the right with a hook to the 1-3 pocket.
I just threw my fourth 300 game yesterday and have a skill level in the mid-1800s (though it’ll be a hard task to keep it there).
February 22nd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
I have over 8 perfect 300’s along with 7 290+ I average in 260-280 range… This game rocks!
March 20th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Haha….yeah bowling took me awhile to get pro because I could not figure out how to control my spin the slightest bit…but of course after awhile messing around I found the perfect spot and now I am at…1040. Got that today. My top score is 238! and i got 4 consecutive strikes and 3 others including spares
I also have mario kart wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
March 31st, 2009 at 5:55 pm
May I barge in? My husband set it up for us but now I want to change the hand I use to bowl and we can’t find the place to do that. How the heck do you get to the screen that lets you choose your dominant hand??? I feel like such a dope.
Thanks in advance…

I throw a perfectly straight ball starting just a smidge to the right of center. I recently rolled 6-300 games in a row. My skill level has been as high as 1920. I can’t remember when I bowled under 200 and I have NEVER missed a single pin spare. What does all this mean? Absolutely nothing! It is a fun game though!
August 22nd, 2009 at 8:35 am
We have so much fun when our friends get together to play. Is there a way to play with more than 4 players?
October 19th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I got one perfect game and then quit playing for like 2 months and now I can’t seem to do it again… It’s frustrating lol.

October 28th, 2009 at 7:35 am
We have a lot of friends on the lake that we see once a week. Our plan was to do something during the winter months so we could all stay in touch. We came up with Wii bowling on Wednesday. We have 16 members, and keep score each week with our handicap. Each week someone host the Wii party and supplies an main dish, while the rest of us bring a dish to pass. I have to say this is the most fun I have had. It’s so much better than a stinky bowling alley with over priced food. Is there anyone else out there doing this.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
My husband and I have had a wii for about 2 years. WE LOVE IT. Our very good friend Cyril regularly gets 300, (I hate him) We have ounted 21 max in a year!!! has anyone else managed this. Is anyone else as mad!!!!
