If you are an Outlook user and often find yourself needing to text message a friend or business associate, you should check out the Outlook plug-in from Joopz.  Joopz users can send SMS messages from the web to any mobile number, allowing them to utilize an actual keyboard instead of poking away at their phone keys.  The plug-in allows you the same freedom, but allows you to use Outlook.

You need to got to Joopz and set up an account.  Once you have finished that and entered the activation code that was emailed to you, it is time to grab the plug-in.  Go to the bottom of the Joopz page.  Click the plug-ins link.

Beneath the description for the plug-in, click the Download Now! link.  The download process should begin.  Once downloaded, install the plug-in by double-clicking the msi file.  The installation is quick and painless.

Now open Outlook.  Go to the toolbar at the top of the application and find and click the Joopz.com button.  Select Log On to Joopz.com.

Input your login information (your mobile number that you used to register the account and the password).  Click the Log On button.

  4. Your message will be sent.  It will also move into the upper portion of the message window.  If the recipient responds, their message will appear in the upper portion as well.

Cool application/plug-in. I installed and tried. I would prefer if type-ahead could recognize names. I remember the names of who I want to message, not their mobile numbers. Scolling to find name is cumbersome.

This tool would benefit me only if I can automate the notifications for up coming mtgs to my phone. I use “get it now” verison of wireless sync and it does not link to my phone’s calendar. For other TXT functions, I use custom recipients in Outlook and/or VTEXT.COM.

Hi - do you know if this plugin works with Outlook 2007?

  4. Lance Ferguson Says:

Yes, it works with Outlook 2007.

I agree with Howard. Searching by name is much handier than by number.

Also, I would like to know if it will work with distribution lists. I’d like to send to 10-15 ppl at a time, if possible.

Does this work with Windows Mail?

I am using Outlook 2007 and when I put a txt in, it repeats itself until someone responds. I am not liking that at all. I would also like to close the txt down and when I receive a txt, it will “prompt” me.

I have bought the premium version of Joopz and have installed the plug in, but when I send the text message, it is not being received by the recipient. What is SMS forward, also? Can you tell me what I may be doing wrong?

  10. Ricardo Says:

Good application, I installed it in Outlook 2007, but it looks that only works if you have a premium account. Correct?

  11. Kevin Says:

Like Mr. Cuway, I bought the Joopz premium account and installed the plug-in, but I don’t see the Joopz tab, and any attempted SMS results in a “cannot contact the server” error message. Any ideas?

  12. Kevin Says:

Followup - it’s necessary to close Outlook and re-launch it for the app to install properly. Hope this helps somebody.

  13. Matt Says:

With the Joopz outlook plug-in, Are messages received in my standard inbox? Can I create rules in Outlook to perform actions on incoming SMS messages? Do SMS messages come into OUtlook automatically or do I need to manually sync with Joopz servers?
