By creating a bookmark in your toolbar, you can access Compose Mail to quickly send an email from your Gmail account, while never leaving the page you were on. This is because you’d be drafting the email in Firefox’s Sidebar.

First, you need to get the address (URL) of your Compose Mail popout window.

1. Go to Gmail.

2. Click the Compose Mail link on the left of the page.

3. When the Compose Mail page appears, click the popout icon in the upper right corner.

4. A new window will appear, containing the Compose Window page. Go to the address bar of the new window and highlight and copy the address (URL).

5. Close the new window.

You are now ready to create your bookmark.

1. Open Firefox.

2. Go to the menu, click Bookmarks and select Organize Bookmarks.

3. In the right pane, select Bookmarks Menu.

4. Click the Organize button at the top of the window, and select New Bookmark.

5. In the Name textbox, input Compose Mail.

6. In the Location textbox, paste the copied address for the Compose Mail window.

7. Check the Load this bookmark in the sidebar checkbox.

8. Click the Add button.

9. Close the Library window.

The next time you need to send out an email while your surfing the web, simply click your new bookmark. Gmail’s Compose Mail will appear in the Sidebar, ready to go.

I’ll bump this to the front page for Friday.

    Simpler way…
After popping out, right click on the page and select “add to bookmarks”…then edit the properties as appropriate.

Should note that the page gets stucks at “Loading…” if you haven’t previously logged into gmail for that Firefox session.

when i open compose mail in new window , it is not showing the address bar

  6. dy Says:

i also don’t get an address showing and when i rt click, there is no link for bookmarking

  7. davak Says:

Unsure why people are not seeing the address bar. I see it in my popout compose box.

In firefox 3 at least you can also find the URL this way. Right-click (ctrl-click for mac) within the popout window without the URL and select “View Page Info”

The URL should be in the Address field.

  24. carol brown Says:

GMAIL problems…I have no idea what the heck I did to my “new message” (Compose mail) - page like the one I am writing this on. It no longer appears when I open my “compose mail”. It is difficult to describe what has happened, but it is a very stark page. It shows lines through the various choices, “archive, report spam, delete, move to,”, etc. and when I click “older version” the layout is the same except the lines are no longer through the choices. And there is a row of little boxes to fill in for “attachments”.
I am sure this sounds like jibberish, but I have spent at least 6 hours, on and off, trying to get back my original easy, pleasant “compose mail” window.
Please please help, or tell me how to get help.
Oh.. I think all of this happened when I was trying to figure out a way to make all the print larger in my new Vista. Can’t read without glasses in the current settings. So I would also like to have all the print in size 14 each time I send or receive (without manually changing each time).
