Create a disposable e-mail address

Many websites often ask you for an e-mail address in order to sign up for their service, sometimes just so they can send you endless numbers of SPAM. If you know this will be the case, or if you just don’t want to give your real e-mail address out, there are a few options. First, you could create very good SPAM filters (we’ll be discussing how in the near future), you could create a second account just for junk mail, or you could give Mailinator a try.

Mailinator is very easy to use and there isn’t even a sign up process. All you need to do is give your Mailinator address out to those parties whom you do not wish to have your real e-mail. You Mailinator address is any name up to 15 characters, so you could make it up on the spot, followed by @mailinator.com. If you ever want to check that address, just type it in the Mailinator website in the field marked Check your inbox here! then click Go, and you will be taken to your inbox. The nice thing is that there’s no need to sign up, no extra passwords to remember, and Mailinator automatically deletes e-mails from your inbox a few hours after you check it. Not having a password may pose a security concern, but since you’ll be using this e-mail address just for SPAM, who cares!

Similarly, there is also Dodgeit which provides the same service as Mailinator but also lets you check your mail via RSS feeds. Enjoy!
