The new Hotmail is pretty impressive

A long time ago, the only real e-mail options available were AOL and Hotmail (and maybe Earthlink). As the web expanded, many new services have cropped up and replaced these as the new kings of e-mail, particularly Google’s GMail and the recently redesigned Yahoo! Mail. Not to be left behind, Microsoft has spent the past year or two beefing up its Hotmail offering and has finally relaunched it as Windows Live Mail. What they have come up with is definitely a step in the right direction.
The new Windows Live Mail offers 2GB of storage, upgradable to 4GB for U$19.99 per year, a built in media player so you can listen to music and voice e-mails, and many other tweaks. Graphically, the service has changed dramatically, offering a three-pane layout similar to that found in the latest version of Outlook, and much crisper graphics as well. There are two new features which make the service stand out; first, you now have the ability to send e-mail as if they were being sent from other inboxes (GMail and Yahoo! as of this writing). Second, is the new security features such as a danger bar, web images not being displayed until allowed, improved filter zones, and more. While it isn’t enough to make me switch, those of you already using Hotmail will definitely be happy with the changes.
