I think I am safe in saying that TipMonkies is a great website that recently has been fading away. Looking at the stats, it appears that many of you, like me, have continued to visit on a daily basis and stay subscribed to the RSS feeds.
As one of the editors/founders of tech-recipes, I approached Martin and asked if we could take over the site to try to shock it back to life. Recently starting a new job and moving to NYC, Martin no longer has the energy to drive the site forward. Hopefully we can help. Martin wants to continue to contribute to this project, and we hope that he does so.
I have always enjoyed TipMonkies, and it pains me to see it failing to thrive.
Other than to develop content, what can I do to bring TipMonkies back to its original form and glory? I’ll get out free shirts to the best suggestions (be sure to leave a real email address in the email field).
At least on tech-recipes, we have continue to grow through user-submitted content. If you want to contribute to this project, please mention it in the comments. I would like to use all the ad money obtained from this project to reward users who submit content. I think that is only fair–especially during this time of rebuilding.
I look forward to your responses and appreciate your continued support of this project.

‘Cause I am! After a long (way too long) hiatus, I am back. I’ve spent the past 4 hours sorting through my email (some great suggestions btw), upgrading WordPress, fixing database bugs, and the such. Expect posting to resume TONIGHT after I get off work ![]()

So today was supposed to be the start of the 2006 post-a-thon, and as those of you who’ve stopped by today know, the site has been down. After checking reports, and going back and forth with customer service, it turned out that there was a $0.02 balance (yes, that’s 2 cents) on the account for some reason, and now that those 2 cents are paid, we’re back online. Now, let the post-a-thon (finally) begin!

Last year, I experimented with doing a 24 hour posting session for the site, basically because we were still very new and I wanted to fill the site up with some content. After about a year and a half of being online, we don’t have a problem with lack of content, but rather lack of posting. I checked my del.icio.us account and have over 800 unused bookmarks for tips. So, in order to make up for some of the time I’ve been missing in action, I’ll be dedicating myself to another post-a-thon, this one, for 48 hours!
This is how it works: posting will start at 12:01 AM Saturday morning and continue until Sunday at 11:59 PM. Last post-a-thon, I wrote about 75 posts in the 24 hours, so I’m hoping to at least double that this time. If you have suggestions, comments, or questions, as always, feel free to contact me via e-mail, or find me on Google Talk (username is ferrettim).

So after much sweat and a few tears, I’ve migrated the site to our new server with the amazing folks at MediaTemple who easily have some of the best customer service I’ve seen so far. TipMonkies is now on the same server as the soon to relaunch HDMonkies which means we have so much space and bandwidth we’ll be doing a little something special. More on that starting tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for your patience and sorry if you saw all the errors and blank pages throughout the day!

I’ve grown a little tired of our current host so TipMonkies is moving to the HDMonkies server on MediaTemple. This should ensure much faster speeds than you’ve been seeing here. I’ve refrained from posting the past few days as I’ve been transferring the domain, and am now in the process of upgrading the server itself. If this site redirects you to HDMonkies, now you know why!

Things have been rough around these parts lately; my mother passed away two weeks ago. Thanks to all of you who sent get well wishes, and while we all hoped she would get well, things were much worse than I thought. I’ll return to posting very soon as my life gets back to normal. Thank you loyal readers for your patience.

Alright, folks…I’m off to see my parents for the weekend up in NY so there won’t be any updates today. I’ll be working through the afternoon, then driving all through the night. Expect updates again, sometime tomorrow late afternoon (after I get some sleep!). Everyone please keep my mother in your thoughts as she’s not doing too well again. Thanks to everyone for your support.

I managed to get a great deal from our to upgrade our hosting package (both storage and bandwidth) for the same price so I’ve been busy for the past hour or so migrating everything over. Additionally, I’ve upgraded the site to the latest version of WordPress which should upgrade some of our security issues and bugs, and am working on some minor cosmetic changes to the site. All this should lead to (already) improved loading times (I know the site has been a little sluggish lately) and a better browsing experience for all of you.
After I’m done upgrading all our comment and mail spam filters and approving/deleting comments, I’ll start reposting sometime in the next few hours. I’ll be talking with Mike as well, and hopefully we can restart podcasting this weekend. Again, thanks everyone for your continued patience and support.
(EDIT) The archives and contact pages are back up!
