Briefli

By now, many of you have probably learned how to use Google’s advanced search features, and some of you may even be able to create custom search strings to find any kind of data you want. If you’re not sure what I mean about custom search strings, then you can check out this blog post which explains it pretty effectively. While you could use these custom search strings to find a particular file, you may not want to type them out in a search box or even bother remembering how to create them. No problem! Why not use Briefli? Briefli lets you create custom search strings visually by entering a search term, and then selecting a file type and file extension. Briefli will then query Google and you’ll be able to reach the deepest bowels of the Internet to find whatever your heart desires.

Ever since iTunes 7 came out recently, people have been complaining about weird issues with playlists being deleted, and various other stability issues. Apple has quickly come to the rescue and released and update to iTunes 7 which should hopefully fix all these issues. While you’re at it, why not get some free content for your new iPod? If you’d like to see some of the free media available on the iTunes Music Store for download, check out It’sFreeDownloads, a cool site which keeps a handy list of free content on Apple’s download service. After all, who doesn’t love free!?

In past Free Music Friday postings, we’ve been basically covering free band albums, but on today’s edition we’ll be featuring a site. The site is Live Net Music and after learning about it almost a week ago, I’ve been having a great time using it. Live Net Music is basically a directory of free music webcasts from around the web. You’ll find great coverage, gig videos, live sessions, interviews and more of some of the best Indie and rock bands around including some of my favorites like Bloc Party and the Kaiser Chiefs. Definitely a site to bookmark.

Radiohead

I’ve been a huge fan of Radiohead for many years now, and am probably one of the few who actually kept listening to the band through their more electronic phase (the Kid A and Amnesiac albums), and enjoyed the more experiemental stuff. This week’s Free Music Friday edition is a mashup Radiohead album mixed by Panzah Zandahz called Me and This Army: Radiohead Remixes. The album features 16 tracks, many from the aforementioned experimental phase, and craftfully melded together with vocals from fantastic (mostly) underground rap artists. You’ll hear vocals from MF Doom on “Change the Beat”, the Jurassic 5 on “Wicked Child”, and one of the best tracks on the album, “Daytona 500 (My Iron Lung Remix)” featuring Ghostface Killa from the Wu Tang Clan. If you’re a fan of either genre, or simply want to hear what a well mixed album sounds like, do yourself a favor and pick this one up! Please note that Panzah Zandahz is selling the album, so if you like it, be sure to send him some cash.

Hello everyone, and welcome to a mini version of Free Music Friday! Today’s find is CC:365 , an effort to find one Creative Commons-liscenced song for each day of the year, and release it in podcast form. They won’t be starting the podcast until 12:01 AM on Janurary 1, 2006, so this one’s good for the Bookmarks folder until then. Here’s to free music in 2006!

Welcome to the first installment of Free Music Friday. Every Friday we will bring to you three to five artists who have at least three of their tracks available on the internet in non-DRM, no restrictions, free-to-download, MP3 format. Most (but not all) will be indie/unsigned artists, so if you’re looking for the latest Crapney Shears album, look elsewhere. Ok, so now that you know how this works, let’s get to it:
