For the most part, I gave up traditional radio long ago. I simply grew tired of programmed music, and of hearing the same songs over and over again. At first, I relied mostly on my CD collection, but with the popularity of MP3’s and digital music players, I always had a steady stream of music to listen to. No longer would I have to hear the same thing every thirty minutes. So what does a podcast have to do any of this and just what the hell are they?

Some people have already voiced their concerns about this site’s iTunes/iPod coverage (relax it’s only been two days!) so in turn, I have decided to cover another service, Real’s Rhapsody. With a large song library and different payment choices, Rhapsody shows great potential.

I began reading about audiobooks a few years ago, but never really paid attention. As an English major and writing minor at the university, I always had to read lots of books during the semester. Granted, I was never one to study much, but I did spend enough time reading textbooks and articles that I was prevented from doing other things. Recently, I learned that a good friend of mine had begun to learn Mandarin Chinese, and not through any conventional means, but through an audiobook. This article discusses the importance of audiobooks, and provides some valuable resources in attaining some.

While many people still choose to download music illegally through P2P networks, warez sites, and chat rooms, there are many of us who do genuinely buy our music (myself included). The problem is that all online music stores put some kind of restrictive DRM on the music you buy. Why shouldn’t you be able to do whatever you wanted with the music that you bought? While I happen to enjoy the ease with which iTunes allows me to sync, play, and buy music, many people still find iTunes slightly awkward, and it can run somewhat slow on older computers. For those of you who want an alternative, look no more! Below is a quick overview of two programs (one free, one not) which I hope many of you will find helpful. I know there are other applications available (such as ephPod), but from my research, these two are some of the best for the job.
